The Northern Territory Special Reconnaissance unit
In 1941, this unit was created. It was made up of 51 Aboriginals, 5 White Australians and a number of Pacific and Torres Strait Islanders. They used traditional bush craft and fighting skills to patrol the coastal areas.
They were eventually disbanded when once threat of invasion was over. These men did not recieve any money or recognition until 1992, when they were awarded medals.
