All the able bodied men were called to serve their country in the war. Those men and women who were left behind were expected to support the war effort. They did this through making and collecting supplies for the soldiers, working in the jobs that the men had left behind (although women were still restricted in what they were allowed to do in the workforce). Many women played a role in getting men to enlist in the army.
